In the words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
In October 2005, Andrea decided to turn that quote into a career, by joining Hospice of Southern Illinois as a Hospice Aide. She chose hospice care because she, “truly enjoys helping the people in our community who trust us at one of the most difficult times imaginable, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
In a field where smiles aren’t always certain, Andrea is sure to bring her warm energy to all those she encounters. Hospice Aides work day-to-day with individuals’ personal care needs and provide support to caregivers. It’s their care, comfort and support that ensures individuals are respected and allows their dignity to be prioritized during their end-of-life journey. It takes a special person to do the work they do, and Andrea sets the bar. Coworkers consistently describe her as “easy to talk to,” and express their admiration for her service and dedication.
When she’s not spending time with her patients, Andrea is camping with her husband for some much needed relaxation. We cannot state enough how much we love having her in our burgundy family.
